So while we were in Paris we attended a wine tasting and lecture by a young sommelier named Olivier. He was charming, irreverent and of course, knowledgable. The presentation was in English, and the group was from all over the world, with most of us coming from the U.S. and Australia---both wine-producing countries, but let's face it, a man from France is going to prefer French wine.
Someone asked him, "What's your favorite country for wine outside of France?"
He managed to give an inoffensive non-answer, but the look on his face was priceless.
I've told this story a few times since our trip, and I feel like there's a great simile out there... maybe several. Share your suggestion in comments:
"Asking a French sommelier his favorite non-French wine is like asking ______________________."
